As a community service project, Mrs. Morrison's Kindergarten class made and sold gingerbread cookies to raise money to buy 200 pairs of sandals for children in Tamil Nadu, India, effected by the Tsunami. It was a schoolwide effort to which the students responded with great enthusiasm and caring.
The children in India were delighted with their new shoes knowing that they came from students just like themselves.
In preparation for Story Telling Festival, Donald Davis
visited our school to get the creative minds flowing in our students.
This is the second time Mr. Davis has come to Sanderlin Elementary, and
his stories were as masterful and entertaining as ever!
From Mr. Davis'
website, "For Donald Davis, storytelling is a way of giving and living
life. He invites each listener to come along, to pull deep inside for
one's own stories, to personally share and co-create the common
experiences that celebrate the creative spirit."

A partnership program with the Bahamas is being developed between Sanderlin Elementary and Woodcock Elementary located in the Bahamas. The exchange was dramatized recently when Florida Commissioner of Education, John Winn, visited Sanderlin to present Sanderlin with a video produced by the Bahamas school. The Commissioner Winn participated in the school’s morning news, visited the schools United Nation’s Kids program, and interviewed children at the school.
The event was covered by the St. Petersburg Times and WUSF TV.
The Partnership with the Bahamas is part of a global Florida program. "The Commonwealth of the Bahamas is one of Florida's most vital trade partners and a great asset to our growing economy," said Governor Jeb Bush. "However, our state's relationship with the Bahamas is not limited to trade. Through Classroom Connections, we will link students in Florida with students in the Bahamas and nations around the globe, providing an interesting and interactive opportunity to learn more about the geography, history and customs of other countries."
